Louis P. “Lou” McCasland, longtime Castroville businessman and owner/manager of the Castroville Municipal Airport’s fixed base operation (FBO), was recently named Executive Director of the statewide organization, Texas Association for General Aviation (TAGA).
TAGA’s primary purpose is to provide, through mutual aid and cooperating consultants and attorneys, specialized assistance to Texas airport operators. A recent noteworthy achievement was that TAGA and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), working through cooperating members of both organizations, were able to get the Texas Comptroller’s office to revise their position as to sales tax collection practices which had threatened to bankrupt a number of flight schools across the state. An earlier success was getting the Legislature to grant lien rights similar to those held by automotive repair shops to operators of aircraft repair stations.
In a recent interview, McCasland stated, “It is a distinct honor to be named Executive Director of TAGA. Under my leadership, TAGA will provide enhanced broad- based institutional support for challenges all operator- members face in the nineties!”
