Air Service Study Moves Forward

June 10, 2025

By Charlotte Bergfeld

As reported in previous editions of Wingtips, a joint effort involving 25 Texas and 5 New Mexico communities and the TxDOT Aviation Division is under way to investigate opportunities for improvement in scheduled air service for small and medium communities. Wilbur Smith Associates has been selected to conduct a study to determine opportunities for attracting new airline service or improving existing service. The study, which is anticipated to begin the middle of June, is expected to require approximately 10 to 12 months for completion. Ninety percent of the cost of the study has been provided by the Federal Aviation Administration. TxDOT will share the remaining 10 percent with the cities involved. Each participating community will receive a specific, individualized plan for adding to or improving their air service.
